SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION

Baptism

What is baptism?

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.  Through baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission…

Catechism of the Catholic Church, 313.

How to book

To register your child for baptism, simply reach out to the Parish Office via phone, email, or in-person visit. Our dedicated team will provide you with a comprehensive Baptism Pack, ensuring you have all the necessary information.

Don’t forget that attending a baptism preparation meeting is a requirement, so please select a meeting date from the list provided in your Baptism Pack and book your attendance through the Parish Office. These meetings usually take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month, at 7:30pm in the Monaghan Centre of the Sacred Heart Church.

For any inquiries, feel free to call our office or email us. We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with you and your family.

Godparents

Choosing the right godparents is an important decision for Catholic parents. Godparents must be baptised and confirmed in the Catholic Church, ensuring they have a deep connection to their faith.

Don’t worry if you can’t find two godparents who meet this requirement – you can also nominate an Official Witness who has been baptised in another Christian Tradition. Godparents and Witnesses have identical duties, guiding and supporting the child on their spiritual journey.

Cost

The contribution for a Baptism at St Anne & St Joachim Parish is $150. If two or more children of the same family are being baptised, the contribution is $200 per family.

Your payment directly supports the ongoing costs associated with the Parish and its Priests. Thank you for your generous support.
